When inserting a correction in Photoshop 7 the new word remains blank until I start typing again (unless there’s a ‘Return’ in the selection. This happens in File info as well as the file browser when renaming files rather inserting text into the photograph/graphic window.

I swear I've heard from others that haven't had any problems with SCX & Photoshop 7. This is the first I've heard of a problem like this.
When you say the word "remains blank" do you mean that the abbreviation gets backspaced over, but the expansion doesn't happen until you type something else?
What if, instead of typing, you just jiggle the mouse? Does that have any effect?
Are you also saying that this only happens in the Mac OS Open/Save As dialogs? Or does it happen in every single window that you can possibly type text into in Photoshop?

As far as I can tell its only happening in the File Info window and the writeable boxes in the batch rename window accessed from the ‘File Browser’ window. Spellcatcher seems to make the expansion but the text doesn’t actually appear until I carry on typing or press return or Tab to move to the next box. It happens whether it is correcting a spelling mistake or inserting a shorthand.
Jiggling the mouse doesn’t make any deifference but clicking the mouse makes the text appear.
If there is a Return in the text which is being rewritten then the text appears as normal.
I tried the writeable boxes in the Automate menu and they seem to be OK.

The problem has gone away with the installation of Panther and reinstalling Spellcatcher.

(There's another one that was pinned as a Spell Catcher problem crashing Safari on Hebrew pages that has magically disappeared when folks upgraded to 10.3.1 from Jaguar posted on this forum)
Doesn't mean SCX has no bugs - it does, but it's just hard to place the blame for some of the more obscure of these problems until the entire nature of the trouble is completely understood (which it often can't be unless you're looking at both mine AND Apple's source code)...

I’ve upgraded to Photoshop CS and I’m getting similar problems again. In the file info box full stops are not replaced when SCX redraws a sentence. It seems to be when the full stop is the last character.
In the browser when I do a batch rename, if a word is replaced it is correct in the input box but the letters are deleted in the ‘Example‘ above it and not re-entered until I carry on typing. If I don’t type anymore then the incorrect version is used to rename the files.
That’s probably clear as mud.
Incidentally why is i not changed to I in this box? I get the sound it usually makes when it corrects but I have to capitalize it manually. I’m using Safari.

As for the automatic capitalization, make sure you have that option turned on in Automatic Changes in Safari (open the Applications drawer in SCX Preferences).
