Is there a way to get Spell Catcher to replace specific characters in selected text?
For example I have a folder full of files with underscores_instead_of_spaces in file names.
Can Spell Catcher be configured to replace these with spaces?
It seems to me a find and replace functionality (in selected text) could be a part of Spell Catcher.
Perhaps the Strip Characters module could be made more configurable for this...
Forgive me if I've missed something obvious!

That functionality exists in Spell Catcher 8, but not in Spell Catcher X, sorry.
So you're not missing anything, but request noted.
