Since SC 10.3.3 (including this latest 10.3.4), my shortcuts for any website URLs no longer expand in Safari (v 4.0.4, the latest).

They'll expand in Safari's search field, and in any other kind of type box within Safari, but not in its URL field.

Everything also works in Firefox and other web browsers. Just not Safari.

I've tried repairing permissions, "Resetting Safari" (which Clears History, empties cache, removes cookies, all autofill, etc). I've also restarted the Mac. Still no URL expansions.

I've also tried this on my new MacBook Pro 15". Same deal: none of my URLs that are shorthands will expand *in Safari's main URL field.*

Any other ideas?

Thank you,

Scott

I think I know what this is. Do you have Safari set to autocomplete urls for you?

Hi Evan,

I tried turning off the 3 checkboxes in the Preferences/ Autofill, and then restarting Safari, but still the same issue.

Is there another kind of autofill aside from those 3 check boxes?

Give me a day or two to look at this. I am pretty sure I know what's up, but need to do a little experimenting to see if the fix I'm pondering will do the trick.

Hello Evan,

Were you able to figure out a fix that would allow auto-fill to work in Safari? I really miss that feature.

Not yet - I have looked at it, and know what's going on, but haven't figured out a good way to deal with this yet. It's one of those weaknesses in the InputMethodKit.framework (for input method applications) that forces me to do all sorts of extra work, in order to determine when a change in the selection necessitates the state of interactive checking to be reset. But I haven't forgotten about it.

Thanks for the update, Evan. I'm patient and happy to wait for a fix. Appreciate you working on it!

Evan,

For a couple days, after installing the Input Method Tuner 10.3.4, Safari autofills expanded nicely. However, it stopped working after a couple days. As before, Firefox and other browsers continue to work fine. It just seems to be Safari.

The Tuner wouldn't have had anything to do with it - maybe you reset Safari's history or something? Anyway, there may well be a way to handle this via an Input Method Tuner. Send an email to our feedback address, I might have something you can try.

Hello Evan,
With Lion 10.7.1 and SC 10.4, Safari is again not allowing expansions to happen in the URL field (as described in above in earlier posts). Just checking to see if this is an known issue or if it's a setting on my end that I can change.

Just found the fix: uncheck Interactive features enabled (Interactive tab: Typing)

EDIT #2: sorry, spoke too soon. That worked for a minute but now it no longer expands the shortcuts in the URL field.

Is Safari automatically filling in the URL field as you're typing?

Yes. I don't know a way to stop Safari from doing that.
