Sometimes I OCR books. The following are flaged as spelling errors (in TextEdit and Scrivener):

Em dash example:

yada yada"—yada

Period followed by a closing parenthesis example:

engagements." I have several gainfully employed friends who hate being asked, "And what do you do?" (One of these folks cuts cadavers for autopsies, the other is an IRS collection agent.)

Any way to learn these as being correct?

Thanks

Bob

Are they being flagged as punctuation errors? If not, what's the exact error as reported by Spell Catcher? Is this during interactive checking, Check Selection, or DirectCorrect, or the Spelling Panel?

I have interactive checking turned on. I'm seeing red underlining.

Errors also show up in check selection and DirectConnect.

The "word quotation mark em dash" is flagged a questionalble spelling.

The "period closing parenthesis" is flagged as questionable punctuation.

Are you not seeing this is TextEdit?

Thanks

Yeah, I see them. I don't think there's any way to learn the actual syntax as being correct, although you might be able to learn individual spelling errors of this sort. The only work around for the second would be to turn off punctuation checking.

But this does seem somehow wrong, so I will take a closer look.
