I'm having problems with SpellCatcher's "Look Up" routine using Mellel 2.7.3.

Whenever I try to look up a word in an open Mellel-document, either through key-stroke or through SpellCatcher's input menu dropdown list, SpellCatcher quits and then fails to restart. Each time the following error message appears:

"Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000030
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Thread 0 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread"

etc. etc. (it's a very long crash report).

I'm using a 2.2. Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook with 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, and Mac OS 10.6.3.

The problem appeared first after I had installed Safari 5 this morning. I've re-installed both Mellel 2.7.3. and SpellCatcher 10.3.5, to no avail. Strangely, the "Find in References" input menu item functions normally.

Please advise,

Rob

Looks like a bug in the new version of WebKit that gets installed with Safari 5. Not sure of the details yet, or how to work around it, but it has nothing to do with Mellel. It's crashing when Spell Catcher creates the WebBackForwardList used to maintain the history of Look Ups.

Nasty. Very very nasty.

Hi Evan,

Thanks for the swift response! At least I now know what the probable cause is. I'll stop fidgeting then and await further developments. Shall I send you a crash report?

Rob

No, I can reproduce this. It's definitely a WebKit bug. I don't yet know enough to file a report with Apple, and I'm not sure if there is a way I can work around it by tweaking something in Spell Catcher. At the moment, it appears to be just something that's broken in WebKit, and not related to what I'm doing or supplying to it.

We're having this problem using Spellcatcher "Look up" with Nisus too -- just after installing Safari 5. Is there a way to un-install that nasty Webkit component? In which folder would it reside?
