I'm very new to spell catcher. I downloaded the trial of spell catcher x Version 10.3.6. and installed it on a macbook air with snow leopard v 10.6.4. Not sure if this is the right subforum but I'm in a huge jam and so I'll start here.

I ran spell catcher through a word document (mac office 2008) earlier today. The document is made up of text with extensive footnotes and 4 pages that contain snapshots of a pdf doc. After completing the spell check, I went to print the document and found to my horror that all the footnotes (#'s in the text itself and references at the bottom of the page) along the images pasted onto all 4 pages. The pages are still there with the header, but the images are gone.

I dont' know if this is a result of something I inadvertently did while running the doc through spell catcher, but it's the only thing I can think of that might have cause the problem. If anyone has any ideas, please advise. I've been working on the document for three weeks and it was to have been submitted today. spell catcher was to be the last step.

Help!

Thanks, BDK

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried undo. Yes there's a backup - but Word automatically saves only the most recent back up so the doc formatted with images and footnotes has effectively vaporized.

Don't you use Time Machine for backups? Or some other backup utility?

Any chance you saved another copy at some point? Or used Word's change tracking feature?

Sorry this happened and you didn't notice when changes were pasted back into your document (at which point Undo fixes things), but some of Word's more complex formatting is not understood by the Mac OS X built-in RTF translators (which Spell Catcher X uses).

Are you certain you didn't save any copy or make any backup over the three weeks you worked on the document?

I have exactly the same problem. Images dissapear. I have just purchased a license and am seriously worried of entrusting Spell Catcher with spell checking my doctoral thesis (for obvious reasons. Luckily I tested it on a small section in Word 2008 in Leopard 10.5.8. I backup every single save to a new date. Not impressed as it basically render it totally useless as an application!.

I have just done a test with a short passge in Word 2008 Leopard 10.5.8 and SC 10.3.6. The passage consists of "text"-image-"text. Did a spell selection and when pressing "finish" it literrally pastes the etxt erasing the image. It seems that spell catcher takes that whole position and replaces it with the clipboard without discriminating for images or other data contained in between. BEWARE! This really does need fixing.

Unfortunately this happens in NeoOffice, Open Office too. I will carry on testing, but if SC cannot cope with a Thesis, it can't cope with much else. I have to say I wish I had not spent the money on this software, it is very disappointing.

If you purchased less than 30 days ago, I can issue a refund. Send an email to our feedback address with details of the transaction if that's the case.
