When I enter an inverted comma (‘) in Google translate the first one appears at the beginning of a line but if I try to put one in a word (isn’t) nothing appears although I get a click. If I try to put another in it deletes the previous letter.

- What web browser (and its version) are you using when visiting Google translate?
- What version of Mac OS X?
- What version of Spell Catcher X?
- How are you entering the inverted comma (‘) character?
- Via the keyboard, with any required modifier keys?
- Typing a plain single quote character, and relying on Spell Catcher to automatically change it to a curly/smart quote?
- Some other way?
- Via the keyboard, with any required modifier keys?
- If you deselect the preference to Smarten Quotes, does that help?
- If you want to continue using smart quotes in that browser, does deselecting the preference to "Make replacements directly (without backspacing)…" for that browser help?

I’m using Safari 5, Mac OSX 10.6.4, SpellCatcher 10.3.6. I just enter the inverted comma from keyboard without any modifiers. It works if I deselect the Smarten Quotes option. There’s no problem in the Google Search page or in any other website. It only seems to be happening in Google Translation (so far). Just tried Firefox and that works properly.

Anyway, I just tested with Safari 5 on 10.6.4 on Google translate, and even with Smarten Quotes selected, I didn't see a problem. Any chance you have some other utility that has a smart quotes feature? Or is Edit > Substitutions > Smart Quotes selected in Safari?

On the UK keyboard ‘ is the lower case character on the “ key which is causing the problem. Option + ] works OK. I’ll have to remember to use that instead. Edit > Substitutions > Smart Quotes isn’t selected in Safari. Quickeys is the only other utility I use. I can live with Option + ].
Thanks for your help.
