I'm having a few issues with Spell Catcher while using Tinderbox. I've searched through the site/forums and haven't found anything that seemed related to my problem.
When editing a note; after I "Check All" and go through my corrections and click to paste. Spell Catcher will paste my corrections, without erasing the original text. I have tried "Check All" and "Check Selection" and have experienced the same issues. However, I can "Check Word" and that seems to work alright.
I also want to note that I have issues with DirectCorrect. The text won't erase, but Spell Catcher will paste the correction randomly in the note and I haven't been able to see any pattern.
I've been using Spell Catcher with other programs and have not been able to duplicate the issue, so I assume it has something to do with Tinderbox. If needed, I can email Support at Tinderbox but I wanted to check here first.
I have also checked off "Make replacements directly without backspacing..." preference and that didn't fix the problem.
I have used Tinderbox and Spell Catcher in the past and don't remember having this issue. Except for DirectCorrect, which I recently just started to play around with.
I am using:
Mac 10.6.4
Spell Catcher 10.3.6
Tinderbox 5.6.0 http://www.eastgate.com/Tinderbox/
Tinderbox and Spell Catcher Issues.

I'm not really familiar with Tinderbox, so I'll have to download a trial version and experiment for myself. It does indeed sound like a Tinderbox (mis)behavior, though.
I'll email Eastgate, too. Hopefully there is a quick/easy fix. I'll remain optimistic...

1. Not really a text input handling thing, but the way it handles window deactivation/activation is definitely non-standard (well, wrong if you ask me). Basically, it doesn't remember the active text selection when (most of) its windows are re-activated. This happens even when the active application doesn't change. Select some text when editing it (in-place/whatever), activate another window in Tinderbox itself (command-`), rotate back to the first window (command-`). NOTE that the previously selected text is no longer selected. This is why Check Selection doesn't work right.
2. The problem with DirectCorrect (it's actually amazing to me that it supports it at all) and shorthands/corrections with "Make replacements directly without backspacing" selected is, well, that Tinderbox reports to input methods that it DOES support making direct replacements, but in reality, it doesn't. For DirectCorrect to ever work properly, they need to fix this. I'm actually not sure what they could be doing for this to be broken, as they appear to be using a standard Mac OS X text editing view that does properly support the features DirectCorrect requires.
So please do contact their developers, and feel free to point them here or have them get in touch with me. It would be nice if they spent a little time fixing these things.

Yeah, I just took a look. It's actually pretty close to being a decent app with respect to text input capabilities. But the problems it has a really deal-breakers - at least as far as Spell Catcher is concerned (and likely other input methods):

Both Tinderbox and Spell Catcher are amazing applications. It's a shame that they do not play well together, for now...
I emailed Eastgate with a link to this thread. As far as the reasoning behind how the program handles itself, I'm sure there is a good explanation that I'm hoping Eastgate will shed some light on. When they reply to my email, I'll post the response.
Thanks in the meantime...

Reply from Eastgate:
Evan Gross's reply makes some sense. This will likely be fixed in Tinderbox 6 next year in any case.
In the mean time, we use the WASTE 3 text engine; if Mr. Gross would like to get in touch with information about supporting Spell Catcher through WASTE 3, we'd be happy to look into it.

I don't know anything about text engines or programming or how many applications use WASTE 3, but I'm hoping you can consider this offer. Although, I'm sure you have enough on your plate...
I suppose I can wait patiently for Tinderbox 6 and be hopeful that it will support Spell Catcher....
Thanks for the help, Evan.
