Since upgrading to 3.6 I can't save my reference files (e.g. British English Words to Correct).e I even did a fresh installation on a new machine, but had the same problem. Not only that, but when I try to amend the dictionary directly, when I try to close it, it says it can't save it but then doesn't give me the option to close it without saving, so I'm stuffed.

a few more oddities. if you have a series of misspellings it no longer remembers the earlier ones but only corrects the latest one. And you can't modify the suggestion any more: it's not editable. Oh dear, it seems to be going downhill. I do hope not!
It's on a brand new MacBook Pro on 10.6.5, fwiw. I have switched off the Apple spell checker in case of conflicts. And we now have the new Office 2011, and their spell checker is seriously buggy. Let's all go back to Mac Plusses and Word 5...

Does this happen with every file? Or just the one?

Could be a permissions problem (although the British English Words to Correct file is by default non-editable). Try using the Finder to Get Info on the file, make sure it's not locked and the permissions are set so that you can read and write.

That's very strange. Are you using the Suggest Spelling window? You're certain your using Spell Catcher X 10.3.6? Previous versions did have an issue with editing the word to "Use:", but that was fixed in 10.3.5…

Any way you can take a screen shot that illustrates the problem?
