Is it possible that Spellcatcher slows down the typing in Scrivener 2?
Switching off Spellcatcher speeds up the typing considerably.

I'm not noticing any sort of performance problem.

Can you quantify this? There are many areas where you can enter text in Scrivener. Does it make a difference where you are typing?

What Spell Catcher preferences do you have set? Is DirectCorrect turned on? Ghostwriter? Auto-Show Completions?

As fast as I can type (gibberish, even), Scrivener can keep up.

it's some time ago, but I do still have problems with Spellcatcher. Slow typing and moving the cursor through the text (option-arrow) is not really smoothly (slows down and accelerates). It is not only in Scrivener but also in Tinderbox and other programs.
I've tried to change the preferences, to uncheck almost everything (automatic checking et cetera - I do not use ghostwriter).
Tried to work with and without the OSX spellchecker..with and without grammar check, with no avail.

The only remedy is to unselect Spellcatcher and thus basically not us it.
When I try to type two characters v and a for instance – va [space] va [space] va [space] va [space] va – I see a little lag when the a appears on the screen. I don't see this when I deselect Spellcatcher, the a appears immediately (this is in all programs).
Only interactive spelling and suggest spelling window are flagged (which is strangely enough a hierarchally lower menu item than 'auto-show suggestions' which is not flagged (it is a little bit confusing how these menu selections (not) interact -and which choice (de)selects which item).

Wow, very strange. I simply can't reproduce this, no matter how fast I type, even with just about all interactive "features" turned on (Auto-Show Suggestions, Auto-Show Completions, Ghostwriter, relevant Automatic changes) and with "Edit -> Spelling and Grammar > Check Spelling While Typing" selected. No matter what I type, and how fast I type it, Spell Catcher easily keeps up.

So I need more info from you. Let's start with a System Profile. Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu, click More Info, Save As a System Profile (XML) document. Then please compress the resulting file and send the .zip file to our feedback email address, along with a note referencing this topic (Spell Catcher app, Help > Send Feedback by Email). At least I'll be able to see what hardware you're using (all modern Mac hardware should easily be able to handle whatever CPU Spell Catcher needs), and perhaps I'll be able to spot whether you have some sort of utility doodad installed that also does something/monitors user events.

It would also help to know how your Spell Catcher preferences are set, so if you can also compress any files in your home ~/Library/Preferences folder named like "com.rainmaker…..plist" and send them along that might help.

As far as the "Auto-Show Suggestions" item and submenu works (in the input method application, anyway), unfortunately it's not possible to have a Cocoa submenu's parent item that's selectable. This is possible with Carbon menus (i.e. those used by Spell Catcher’s input method component) - bug filed with Apple long ago. Hence the "duplicate" Auto-Show Suggestions item in the submenu (which is selectable). If that doesn't answer your question, be more specific about what's confusing you.

I had this problem and it was really annoying as now I do all my projects and writing in Scrivener. After reading all the entries on the SpellCatcher Forums, I created a special entry in SpellCatcher for the Scrivener.App and after much trial and error, I found that all I needed to change was to untick the ‘Make replacements directly (without backspacing) where possible’ in the Typing category. Now everything works fast and beautifully. I have back the two most important programs in my life - Spell Checker and Scrivener.

I have a MacPro running OS 10.6.8.

I hope this helps someone, somewhere.
