I've seen this discussion a couple of times in the forum, but want to revive the issue. There should be a way to either disable Spell Catcher so that it does not automatically start with programs, or to limit Spell Catcher for use with only specified programs. I, for example, only want to use Spell Catcher with a word processor that has an inferior spell checking feature. It is a waste to have Spell Catcher open otherwise. I have uninstalled Spell Catcher in the past and will do so again, until this feature is available.

It's been available for a while.

In Spell Catcher Preferences, Language pane, under "Mac OS X spelling checker", deselect "Can use Spell Catcher's languages and word lists".
