Hi,

Just registered and installed v 2.1.4.

Two shorthand entries are working strangely in Quark Xpress 4.1

one / two produces `ahi½

and an em dash appears as `aea—

Me or you?

Regards

Hi Clive,

When you or anyone (including myself) find a problem like this, a great way to figure out what is going on is to try the operation (in this case an expansion) in another application to observe the outcome there.

In this case, both the "1/2" expansion and the em-dash expansions place characters which are not considered "normal" ascii characters into your document. Not all applications support these characters... this may be the case with Quark. I don't have Quark but I'll try to find a downloadable trial to try it out on Monday.

Another issue with Quark... they use a proprietary clipboard format, meaning we can't perform "Check Selection" operation on it without losing formatting. We asked the Quark folks about this several years ago and got no response.

I'll let you know in this thread about my attempt at installing Quark next week.

Thanks,

Thanks, John. I should have said that Spell Checker works flawlessly in all other apps on this system and with all of the fonts I‘ve tried. It does sound like a Quark issue irritatingly, because I compose quite a lot of text direct into the prog.

Well,

I looked into downloading Quark Xpress... the demo installation is a little too large (130 Mb) for me to deal with at this point... so we'll just have to accept that Spell Catcher's functionality is slightly limited when dealing with Xpress...

Most notably, Check Selection doesn't work with Quark, since formatting is not retained.

Irritating, John, since I hoped to use Spell Catcher in just this way.
