Not sure if this is a compatibility issue or something else. I'm using the trial version to see if this is going to suit my needs. So far I can only get SC to do one thing: capitalize the beginning of sentences! And it doesn't always do this properly either…it will for example not capitalize the very first word of a new paragraph (TextEdit, Firefox, THunderbird). It will however capitalize subsequent beginnings of sentences.

Meanwhile, nothing else is working. For example, you can see that it won't automatically fix double-caps at the beginning of the word ("Thunderbird" above). This is what prompted me to download the application in the first place. It also won't suggest new spellings, and it just beeps at me when I try to turn DirectCorrect on.

I've attached screenshots of my preferences, for the interactive panel. I'm using a dual G5 with OS 10.5.8. I tried quitting QuicKeys in hopes there was a conflict, but that doesn't fix things. I've also restarted a couple of times. I noticed that the input method didn't select Spell Catcher when I restarted, and I had to manually select it.

Any idea what's happening? Thanks.

Not sure, but something's not right (although Spell Catcher can't capitalize sentences unless it "sees" a period or exclamation mark BEFORE you type the first word).

In the Spell Catcher application, choose Spell Catcher > Licenses. Make sure you're running in Trial Mode, and not unlicensed.

Yes it's in Trial Mode, not unlicensed. Anything else I can try?

I'm sure there is, because (all) features do work!

NOTE: There are a couple of evil pieces of software out there that will disable as-you-type features in all applications that watch and/or send keyboard events. One that I know of is Quicken Scheduler. If you have it installed, either nuke it or disable it.

Have you watched our Video Tutorials? If not, please do. Follow along with them, tell me the results.

It's possible, from the symptoms you describe, that you may well have a bad/damaged install. This sort of thing happens occasionally, usually the customer tells me that the size (on disk) of the installation disk image was wrong - at least after downloading a fresh one, then using it to uninstall and re-install.

You may want to do that as well if you still have no luck after watching and following the Tutorials.

Well that seems to have done it! A full uninstall and reinstall from a new download fixed the problem. I don't remember having all the dialog boxes at the beginning of the install, the first time around. I've got pop up menus, double-caps fixing, shortcuts…the works! Going to go pay for it now. THanks for your help!

(That last double-caps is a joke…)
