In the Spell Catcher Modify Selection menu, at the top of the submenu "Modify Selection" is listed with a keyboard shortcut showing the icon of a pen, command and M.

It took me a little while to find that the pen signifies the Control key.

In Spell Catcher preferences/Shortcuts there is list showing the modifier keys but no explanation for the icon of a pen.

I guess that the pen icon needs to be changed to the control modifier key for consistency.

Wow, very strange! It should definitely be the control key.

What application were you in when you took that screenshot? Does it happen everywhere? What do you see in Spell Catcher Preferences, Shortcuts pane?

Also, which input method is active? The one with the little "64" badge on the yellow checkmark or the plain yellow checkmark?

What version of Spell Catcher X? What version of Mac OS X?

Before you try to remedy this, can you make an archive (compress) your existing (home) ~/Library/Preferences/com.rainmaker.SpellCatcher.plist file?

I was wanting to use Title Case for some song titles in iTunes, but I don't think iTunes has anything to do with this as the pen appears all the time, regardless of the program I am using.

To get the picture I included I just clicked on the yellow Spell Catcher tick mark in the Menubar (with the 64 badge), which was the active input source.

I am using OSX 10.6.7 and version 10.3.7 of Spell Catcher.

I do not see the pen anywhere in the SC prefs pane. It only appears in the Modify Selection and in the Auto-Show Suggestions menu.

My compressed pref file is attached too.

I don't see an attachment with the prefs file. Can you try again, or email it to our feedback address?

OK, thanks. No time to look at it now, but if you want to correct the problem, you should be able to open Spell Catcher Preferences, Shortcuts pane, select the item for Modify Selection, then click the "Use Default" button.

Tried your solution "Use Default" but it did not change anything.

Just upgraded to version 10.4 and the problem "pens" still remain!

Hmmm, well, upgrading to Spell Catcher X 10.4 won't touch/change your keyboard shortcuts - did you click "Item Default" with 10.4 as well?

I'm not sure how customized your keyboard shortcuts are (for Universal, for specific applications), but you could try (with Universal selected in the list of applications) clicking the "Reset" button while viewing the Shortcuts pane. A bit drastic if you've done a lot of customizing, but if you do try it let me know what the results are.

I did take a look at your preferences file, and it does seem a bit "out of whack" as far as the values for keyboard shortcuts go. The format/values are out-of-date for some reason - looks like the format for Spell Catcher X 10.2.x. Not sure why, but it might be that using "Reset" is your only choice here. It also looks like you don't have any per-application settings - is Universal the only item in the list of applications in the drawer attached to the Preferences window? If that's the case, then there's nothing really to lose by resetting your keyboard shortcut preferences.

Specifically, your preferences file is missing the values used by the input method application (yellow checkmark with "64" badge). Do your other shortcuts seem OK?
