How have you determined that they are "not working"? Can you describe the symptoms? Steps to reproduce?

Did they work for you at one point, and just "stop"?

If I open a new word document and type shortcut and hi space bar all that I have is the letter combination I typed. Now open Excel or PowerPoint and type the same shortcut letters and they expand as they should. SC worked normally in office 2004 but hasn't worked in Word in office 2008. Same problem on different machine (intel mac 10.6 sc10.4)
Thanks

Well, they definitely should work in Word 2008, so it sounds like a Spell Catcher preferences issue. When you're in Word 2008, pull down the Input menu (yellow checkmark), and make sure that the Interactive Checking item is selected. Then make sure that the language that's selected (Input menu > Set Language submenu) is the one you expect. If both look right, then choose Preferences… from the Input menu (while you are in Word), and if Word is in the list in the Applications drawer, in the Interactive pane, Shorthands tab, make sure that "Make Shorthand Glossary expansions as you type" is selected for Word. If Word isn't in the list then Universal will be selected, same goes - make sure "Make Shorthand Glossary expansions as you type" is selected.
If still no luck, reproduce the problem, but this time immediately pull down the Input menu and verify that (say) the Find in References command displays the word/abbreviation you actually typed. If not, tell me what is shown - i.e. what Spell Catcher thinks that you just typed.
