Although I couldn't get Scott's test build to load correctly, I could test out his theory using the current preview build by greatly shortening my MailTags Project menu (by excluding external OmniFocus projects from the list). I have a metric sh*t-ton of OmniFocus projects, and the menu was quite long.
This cured the scrambled typing for me. So I suspect Scott is on to something here. Anyone else who has been having this slow/scrambled typing issue should see if MailTags or anything else is causing a very long menu in Mail. MacOS may be causing those menus to attempt to rebuild with every keystoke (if Scott is correct) and that could be the source of the slowdown.

The cause of the slowdown, probably. The scrambled letters - well - something else is going on there. Some sort of asynchronous or delayed action going on between keystrokes. Not sure at this point.
