I used to use Textexpander for my various signatures. It worked perfect in the Sparrow email client. When I found that textexpander and spell catcher do not play well together, I decided to get rid of textexpander and use the shorthand option inside spell catcher. Sadly, whenever I try to activate one, I get the little noise and the email client hangs, rock solid. I must use the activator to force quit it and restart it.

So, since Textexpander works great with Sparrow and Spell Catcher does not, I may have to consider spell catcher a loss.

It looks like Sparrow is using WebKit, and you're running into the same hang that can happen in Safari, Outlook, Mail and other WebKit apps when Check Spelling While Typing is selected (Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Check Spelling While Typing).

This is Apple's bug, and has been reported.

Anyway, since you're using Spell Catcher, and it can certainly check your spelling, simply deselect Check Spelling While Typing in Sparrow. Should the problem you're having.
