I am still using Windows XP on my PC along with MS Office 2000 and a load of other software that I bought years ago.
I am still using all the software on my Mac that I bought last year, except for Spell Catcher.
I just uninstalled Spell Catcher because I am sick and tired of the daily notifications that I need to pay for the upgrade,
and that the version I am using is only good until the end of the month,
and that there is no where to turn off the harassment.
I thought I bought the license to use this software.
Instead, I paid $35 for one year's rental - for a spell checker?!?!?!
Your spell checker costs more than my operating system! And I don't get daily harassment to upgrade my operating system. Get a clue.
Upgrade or Die?

Too bad you have been getting this daily notification for the last year. Too bad you haven't emailed about this problem for the last year. Too bad you didn't look around this forum and see many of us have had the same version of SCX for years. Too bad you didn't search the forum and see that there isn't one single similar complaint.
Obvious your issue is unique. If it wasn't, Evan would be blasted all over this forum.

Get a clue your own self. I did not say I have been getting the notification for the past year. I have been harassed for the past two weeks every time I open an application associated with SC. I suddenly have the new version 10.4 and am told I cannot use the product after the end of the month. I looked in Preferences to turn off upgrade notifications, but there is no such option, and there is no option for keeping the old version - its gone. The company obviously wants to harass me into paying for an upgrade. I did search the forum. I only found complaints about having to pay for an upgrade on a defective product.
Why should I have to do research to keep a product I paid for? This is ridiculous. I bought a product, the company came along and stole it and put a new one in its place, and now demands I pay for the new one. If I don't pay, they steal that, too.

Sorry, Evan Gross and tbailey, I have to agree with BaldSpot that your paid upgrade was the final straw for me to uninstall. I registered to this forum just to set straight the fact that he's certainly not alone. It's wrong to assume you haven't been losing customers because loads of people didn't take the time to speak their mind. Most folks (including me) would just move on - who has the time? But I happen to have some unexpected free time to goof off today.
In my case, I acquired SpellCatcher in a bundle from MacUpdate, and haven't really put it to use. But when I did try to today - the process for updating was the most grueling, time-consuming I've ever experienced (and I've experienced 1000's of updates in my time [Your programmers need big help in this department] - only to end in the disappointment described below.
The "Read Before Installing Spell Catcher X.rtf" document states that "If you already have a license for Spell Catcher X 10.2.x or 10.3.x (your code begins with “X102”), the Spell Catcher X 10.4 upgrade is free." Well, I checked, and my SC X 10.3.x license DOES start with X102, so I took the trouble to upgrade - only to be shot down when relaunching SpellCatcher informed me that I DO have to pay because it was more than a year. PLEASE edit that README information to clarify for the next poor sucker like me who reads that literally.
