I don’t use Spotlight very often so this may not have just started in Lion. When I use a shortcut or correct an error in Spotlight the correction is added onto the end of the original instead overwriting it.

Do you want to have Spell Catcher active in Spotlight? Two different approaches here depending on your wishes…

It doesn’t have to be but I tend to use shortcuts automatically whether I’m doing a search or entering text anywhere else. I tried it on my G4 laptop running Leopard last night. It works properly on that. It’s not a great problem as I usually use the search box in finder windows.

In the Applications drawer of Spell Catcher’s Preference window, add SystemUIServer to the list (/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer) if it's not there already.

Then select SystemUIServer, view the Interactive pane, Typing tab, and deselect "Make replacements directly (without backspacing) where possible".

See if that helps.

Note that because it's difficult to select commands from Spell Catcher’s input menu while Spotlight is open, you may have to also manually select or deselect their equivalents with SystemUIServer selected in the Applications drawer. I refer to Interactive pane, Typing tab, "Interactive features enabled", Spelling tab "Check spelling as you type", whether/how to Automatically show suggestions, and in the Shorthands tab, "Make Shorthand Glossary expansions as you type". However it sounds like you've got those set the way you want anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions. It’s just the same with "Make replacements directly (without backspacing) where possible" deselected for SystemUIServer. Deselecting the others doesn’t help either.

Hmmm, strange. Did work for me.

What if you try turning interactive checking off for SystemUIServer - i.e. deselect "Interactive features enabled" with it selected in the Applications list? Is the actual result correct (no interactive checking while the Spotlight field is open)?

Right. I think it’s working now. I deselected "Interactive features enabled" but I had deselect Spell Catcher and then reselect it in the Input Menu to get it to take effect. I did the same with "Make replacements directly (without backspacing)“ and my shortcuts are now working in Spotlight. Thanks for sorting that out for me.
