I am running SC X 10.4 on the new Mac OS X Lion, and the character picker feature (which, when holding a key, displays a window with accents for that letter) does not work, I just get that key repeated (which was the usual behaviour in previous Mac OS versions). I was just wondering if SC had anything to do with that and, if it did, if there was anything I could do to get the character feature properly working in my computer.

Do you actually mean the Keyboard Viewer, not the Character Viewer?

I just did a test with the Keyboard Viewer while Spell Catcher was the current input source, and saw no problems. I use the Canadian English keyboard (normally).

When you Show Keyboard Viewer, what keyboard does it show is selected (in the title bar of the Keyboard Viewer)?

Character picker is a new feature in Lion that, when keeping a key pressed, it shows a window with all the accent option for that letter:

From http://www.apple.com.../features.html:

“Text
Character picker
Accessing accented characters in OS X Lion is a breeze. Just hold down the letter and a dialog appears listing all alternative and accented characters.“

While checking online forums for people with my problem I have observed that the opposite happens, people who do not want or need that feature and want to get rid of it (http://gdgt.com/ques...ter-picker-f1k/)

My MacBook Pro has a German keyboard.

Yeah, neat new feature! Never even knew about it before…

Anyway, if any input method is selected (even Apple's own), the feature is disabled. Seems to only works for keyboard input sources. Not sure if there's something I can change in Spell Catcher to enable the functionality. I'll have to ask someone at Apple about it.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Do let me know if anything changes with SC that would allow me to use character picker, since I do constantly write in different languages that require accents.
