Every correctly spelled word I type in Safari causes SCX to trigger a "misspelling" audio alert. I hear "mis", "mis", "mis"... And when I do truly misspell a word I only get a "mis" instead of "misspelling."

Makes no sense… is your language set as expected in the Set Language submenu of Spell Catcher’s Input menu?

In Spell Catcher’s References preferences, for that language, are the Main Spellings databases "Used?".

Yes, English.

Yes.

I'll email you a movie that shows what's happening. I sent it to your feedback email.

I really can't tell a whole lot from that movie, other than something "unusual" seems to be happening.

I need to know what type of error, and the error itself, that Spell Catcher thinks you've typed. Even if Auto-Show Suggestions is not selected (as is the case here), when you hear the error alert, pull down Spell Catcher’s Input menu and see what the Current Error is (first item) is. Also show me any relevant screenshots of how your Alert Preferences are configured (for Safari) for the various error types. Make sure to select the correct tab, depending on whether you're playing sounds or using speech, or perhaps both. And make sure that clicking the "Alert Me!" button gives the result you expect.

And a screenshot of Spell Catcher’s References Preferences with US English disclosed so all the references are visible.

That's a start, anyway.

Problem has ceased for the moment. I'll post again when it happens next.

This is still a problem. I was on the SmartMoney site and typing "online" in its search box and I got the error. See the attached screen shot. I quit Safari, rebooted Safari, returned to the SmartMoney site and test again, and then SCX worked as expected. I can't say what triggers SCX to think I'm typing each letter twice as you see in the screen shot.

Also, is it possible to up the file upload size? 256k is hard to work with.

Interesting. I couldn't reproduce this - obviously you weren't able to 100% of the time, either. Do you have any clues as to what's triggering this behavior? Or better yet, some way to reliably reproduce it yourself?

Should be, although I looked for the appropriate setting the other day and didn't find it (the one I found that seemed appropriate was set to 128K, so I didn't make any changes).

You can always send large attachments to our feedback email address…

I will watch, but so far I have no idea what causes the bad behavior.

I do know this. Quitting and restarting Safari resets SCX to not do the bad behavior, at least for a little while. Has anyone else written to you Evan to say they have the same problem? Can it only be me? If so, then maybe I need to try to isolate a hardware or software incompatibility.

I've had one other WordPress related report, but the symptoms aren't the same as this.

I haven't had a chance to fully investigate the other report yet. If you discover anything, let me know. I doubt very much it's anything to do with hardware - more likely a Safari/WebKit thing.

I have the same problem - double letters when typing into input fields on web pages in Safari. I noticed it first when my shorthand expansions wouldn't trigger.

I'm also running SCX 10.4, Safari 5.1 (6534.50) & OSX 10.6.8, on a 2007 Mac Pro. Problem doesn't occur with text entered into the Safari search field, only text entered into fields on webpages.

Can you give me a URL where this happens? Along with steps to reproduce?

This is a huge annoyance. SCX thinks everything I type in Safari is double letters. I don't know why. A restart of Safari so;ves it for a short time then it starts again. Might it be my Wacom tablet driver? It odes cause minor issues with other programs. I have an Intuos2 tablet. I attached screenshots for typing in the search on eBay, and the same on this site. As I wrote this SCX thought every word was double letters. Mis, mis, mis, mis, mis... is all I hear!

FYI. I still need more space than 256k for attachments, and a max size of 39.91K. Reminds me of the day back in the 80's when I had a 400k floppy disk as the only storage on my new $3k Mac! Makes trying to attach images too much work. I won't mess with it again in the future. I'll just email them to you. Too bad others won't get to see the screen shots.

I just tried increasing the size limit - have no idea if I messed with the correct setting. Let me know.

As far as the double letter thing, I honestly have no idea what's going on. Tell me what's selected in Safari's Edit > Spelling and Grammar submenu, and in Edit > Substitutions as well.

Once this starts happening, does it happen on any web page, in any text entry area/field?

Do you have any Safari Extensions installed?

I'm still limited to 256k total.

It was set to "Check spelling while typing." I turned that off to test. In subsitutions it's set to "Smart Copy/Paste."

Once it starts it does happen on all web pages in any text entry field (I'm 100% almost sure of that!).

Yes to installed Safari Extensions. Just 1Password. Got to keep that. It's almost as valuable as SCX.

Let me know if you can figure out what triggers the problem, or better yet, how to reproduce it.
