Evan,

Ever since I upgraded to Lion whenever I press and hold a key the new iOS accented letter thingy has never worked for me. I read this morning that a Welsh lady had the same problem and then changed her input source from Welsh to British and it worked. So I changed my input source from SpellCatcher to Australian and it worked, although it took a bit of effort!
Do you know if this is a known issue or is it something on my system? I have no other problems with my Lion istallation.

The new "Character Picker" in Lion only works with Keyboard layout input sources. Doesn't work with input methods (including Apple's own). I've asked Apple about whether there's a way I can get the functionality with my input method = so far no answer.
