Having a problem since I upgraded my computer to Mac OS X 10.7 (aka Lion).

I'm running SpellCatcher X 10.4, Safari v5.1 and WordPress 3.2.1

If I activate a shorthand to macro in some text either the text doesn't get input at all in the field or it's scrambled.

I have some URLs saved in My Shorthands and if I try to use these in my photo excerpt field of WordPress it just remains blank, no text is entered. I don't even see any text appear and disappear. For longer shorthands even in the body copy field the text is sometimes scrambled.

If I use Google Chrome there is no issue with SCX entering a shorthand in the excerpt field so there's something broken with using Safari.

I'm also using WordPress 3.2.1 on our blog here, along with 10.7 and Safari 5.1 (same setup as you I think).

I'm not seeing any problems with shorthands of any sort, however we may not be using the same WordPress settings. As well, I'm not that familiar with WP, so I'm not sure what the difference between a photo excerpt and a "regular" excerpt would be. I didn't see any problems entering a URL (or whatever) in the excerpt field.

Can you educate me on any difference?

What about shorthands that aren't URLs? Any difference? What about other fields?

Are you using any non-default settings for creating posts or adding images? How about plug-ins?

There is another post here about WordPress and shorthands here, maybe take a look and see if it's applicable in your situation?

Actually I did that other post and it appears that it doesn't have anything to do with WP going through its autosave routine.

Here's a screen video I made of me trying to use a shorthand in WordPress. I type the shorthand but as soon as I hit the spacebar it erases the shorthand but doesn't type-in the text I want. This only seems to happen in this one field. Same thing if I hit return instead of space after using the shorthand. You'll note in the video that if I type into a different field I get the proper results which I then paste into the correct field.

What field is that? How can I reproduce it on my WP blog?

Evan,

I have the same issue in Safari.
Most obvious is the Google main search page. It also occurs randomly in other fields on different pages.

I live in Georgia and use "ggg" to insert Georgia - it works here at the forum.

But on Google's search page the shorthand pops up then is erased and the field goes blank.

Please advise,

Love SpellCatcher! My business would have failed without it.
Thanks again for your follow-up in advanced.

Problem is, while I've seen this happen once or twice, I can't figure out how to reproduce it. Makes it difficult to fix, as you can imagine. If you ever figure out how, please let me know.

Sorry this is a cross-post from another thread here but I have movies of examples.

I'm having this same problem of erroneous type if I type quickly or have a macro input text. Mostly see this when I'm using WordPress since I use that a lot but I believe it also happens on other web-based platorms I use like Yammer. Just tested this forum area and I get the same errors inputting text here.

I also downloaded a fresh version of SpellCatcher X, ran the uninstaller. Installed the new version of SCX all following instructions several messages above in this thread. So these tests were performed via this new install. No errors occur if I use SCX when doing this test in TextWrangler or TextEdit.

I did some screen capture movies. It appears to be related to WebKit with Safari being the worst offender. Chrome has problems too but it appears to be more display driven as words will come out in spurts but contain no errors. Firefox, based on the gecko engine, sailed through using both the US and SCX input methods.

Tests were done on my MacBook Pro using iKey to type text at 300 characters/sec. Text input on WordPress 3.3.1 install.

See the results here:

Just added WebKit nightly build (just as bad as Safari) and Opera which was a little rough but no errors.
