This does not happen every time I use SpellCatcherX to insert a shorthand into a Mail message. In the crash log I see:

WebCore::SpellingCorrectionController::correctionPanelTimerFired(WebCore::Timer<WebCore::SpellingCorrectionController>*)

It appears that SCX and Apple's spelling corrector are clashing. Is there a setting we need to turn off in System Preferences?

I'm sending the entire log by email.

This is the same bug in WebKit that kicks in with Outlook 2011. And you're exactly right - it's a bug in WebKit's support for the system-wide spell checker. Been around ever since Snow Leopard, reported to Apple, but nothing done about it to date.

Different work around for Mail than Outlook, however. Just set Mail's Composing preferences for When to check spelling to "Never". Not a big deal, since you're likely using Spell Catcher for that purpose.
