I have TextWrangler. I just bought BBEdit 10.1.1. Both are from Bare Bones Software.

When I expand a text with several lines, BBEdit completely mistypes the text.

Here is the correct text expanded on TextWrangler:

It is as if Spell Catcher jumps to the beginning after reaching the middle of the text and starts typing from the end of the line. This ends up butchering the text expansion.

The problem occurs primarily with text where the lead character is not a letter, and is instead a symbol or non-alphanumeric character (like "-" or "•")

Any ideas?

Any workarounds?

This is frustrating.

Solution Found!


I was able to solve the problem.

I found that turning on the preference "Check spelling as you type" in BOTH BBEdit AND TextWrangler
will screw up Spell Catcher to cause the mangled text expansion. It initially did not happen in TextWrangler
since I had automatic spell checking turned off in TextWrangler.
