Since I have installed the upgradem to Sp Checker Plus (2.14), the program no longer checks my work. I open the note pad (as you suggested to another member) and typed in several errors. Nothing happened. I opened Sp Ck Plus from the task bar and noticed that the "check selection" item was grayed out. (And, Yes, I did have the text selected.) Before I had upgraded, this failure to check a selection was limited to AOL, and even then the program behaved erratically, sometimes checking and at other times not. As I noted above, the program now checks nothing.
Incidentally, when I checked the version, I found it listed as 2.04 -- not 2.14 -- although I did perform the update some time ago.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

It sounds like you're still running version 2.0.4, if that's what's listed in the About Spell Catcher dialog...

I suggest that you uninstall Spell Catcher from your machine, using the Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs feature and then download version the demo version of 2.1.4 and try that.

You get this download by following this link...

http://www.rainmaker...C_Plus_Demo.exe

Get back to me with how it's working (or not working) after doing a fresh install, being sure that "About Spell Catcher" reports that you're running 2.1.4.

Also, what OS are you running,

Thanks,

I'm running XP-Home, and I install the updates as they are sent.

I'll try your ideas as soon as I locate my copy of Spell Catcher 2.04. I'm reluctant to uninstall applications before I have the disk (CD) in hand, although I may have simply downloaded the copy.

In the meantime, thank you for your help.

I removed Spell Catcher (via the control panel). After rebooting, I received a warning message that the application Catcher.dll could not be found (or words to that effect). The message also included my serial number followed by .exe at the top of the warning. I would have thought that the process of removal should have included ALL items of the application. Should I not wish to reinstall Spell Catcher, how can I remove whatever I must delete to get rid of that warning every time I reboot? Of course, if I can get Spell Catcher to work, I shall certainly reinstall it.

Thank you again.

B)
Problem(s) solved.

I made use of my Macintosh background and did a bit of thinking and toying (tooling) around in this Evil Empire.
First, I removed the “extension” that was left in the start up folder as well as other fragments left elsewhere.
Second, I removed the OLD Spell Catcher Plus folder from the Programs Folder.
Third, I rebooted and checked to see whether any obvious problems remained.
Fourth, I reinstalled Spell Catcher Plus (2.0.4 -- The original Casady & Greene version), and rebooted. I reboot on tasks like these to be on the safe side.
Fifth, I reinstalled the Spell Catcher update to 2.1.4 -- and, of course, rebooted.

Everything seems to be working well.

Thank you again for your help. I hope that this lengthy outline of my procedure will be of help to others.

Hi,

Glad you were able to fix up your installation... and that all is well at this point.
Yesterday I did uncover a bug in code that has not been edited for years, so there will be another small upgrade coming out soon to correct this issue.

I'm not sure how your installation got so muddled, but you did the right thing by backing everything out (using the Control panel), making sure there were no remnants and finally by reinstalling 2.0.4 and then the update to 2.1.4

If you're interested in becoming a beta tested I'd be glad to have you help out... follow this link for more details...

And thanks for your explanation of how you got your installation fixed up, it could help others.
