Greetings:

SCX is one of my favorite applications. I use it for interactive spelling and auto fill.

I have stumbled on a problem that involves crashing Safari if SCX is selected in the input menu. If U.S. is selected Safari will not crash.

Lucky for me this only happens on certain pages, specifically on pages of a Hebrew newspaper.

Interesting enough, to avoid the problem one needs to select U.S. before loading the page where you click the link and not just before clicking the link, so it seems that some of the problem occurs when (or begins) when the page is loaded and just when the link is clicked.

To see this problem go to:
http://www.haaretz.co.il/

Then try to click on one of the links on the page.

I use OSX 10.2.8, SCX 10.0.2 and Safari 1.0 (v85.5) on a Powerbook G4 500 MHz Titanium

I will be posting a similar report on Safari bug reports.

Thanks for a great application,
Joshua Margolin

Just wanted to add that if the link is clicked to open in a new Safar window or tab Safari will not crash even if SCX is seleced in the input menu.

I remember this being reported (probably by yourself) on the C&G board, and that I was unable to reproduce it.

I think it's no longer a problem with SCX 10.1, at least the betas I'm working on at the moment. I'll double-check to make sure, though. I doubt there's anything you can do about it in SCX 10.0.2, though.

Dear Evans:

Thanks for your prompt reply. You are correct that I have reported such a problem before. It may be of interest to you to know that the problem was not happening for quite a long time and now returned. I do not know if it has to do with a change in Safari, OSX or the web page itself.

On another matter I think that the forum's (board) user name and password should be sent on a separate email after the account was activated by the user. This way, if the user keeps a copy of the activation conformation email he can retreive it himself in case he forgets.

Thanks,
Joshua

This is happening to me as well. If it doesn't crash Safari then it will just make it very slow and unresponsive.

Mozilla is my browser by default, but at some point I do plan on switching to Safari, when all the bugs are worked out of it.

Running 10.3.1 and Sp 10.0.2 with no other third party stuff except default Folder on a 17" Powerbook with 1 gig of Ram.

Evan,

I have had a lot of Safari crashes and I tried all the suggested soultions I could find on the Apple disscusion group. None helped. I read the post here about turning off SCX. What I did was turn off interactive checking, and I have not had any Safari crashes in the past 5 days. I'll continue operating this way and let you know what happens in a week or so.

Hello again:

Well, surprise! After upgrading to Panther and to 10.3.1 The problem with Safari and SCX does not happen any more. True that SCX gives me some trouble during restart, It comes up during the login process but the original problem I reported is not happening again.

Hope it stays this way,
Shuka

We have a work-around for the sprurious alerts in the login panel. Visit our downloads page.

Glad to hear things are fixed in 10.3, I can't even imagine what the bug was (never could reproduce it myself).

Did any of you upgrade to Panther over an existing Jaguar install, or install Panther fresh (archive install or erase install)?

Just curious ...
