Hello

I want to convert an MS Word 2001 dictionary into a SpellCatcher 8 document. However, File Converter won’t translate it. It keeps displaying Error -108.

I have opened the file in Word and saved it as a text document, and discovered I can drag and drop the information into a Learned Words file (freshly created). However, after several words I again get that Error -108 message.

The dictionary is quite large - nearly 300,000 words - but I thought by dropping in a few words at a time I could get Spell Catcher 8 to read it. This is a very time-consuming... and now I cannot add any more words anyway. The new learned words file only contains the first words beginning with A

Any workarounds on this problem?

Thanks for any help

Oz

PS I have successfully transferred all the data via drag and drop into Spell Catcher X

Are you using the 8.1.3 version of the File Converter? A bug was fixed that caused premature -108s (out of memory) when converting largish files.

Still, even with the 8.1.3 version, 300,000 words is a LOT. See if you can allocate a whole lot of RAM to the Converter app (Get Info/Memory) just for the time you need to do the conversions. The default allocation will not even remotely be enough.

If you've got (say) a 128MB machine, give the Converter app 50MB+. Maybe even more.
