Hi,

I am looking for a way to export the shorthand glossaries so that they can be used as a text file, and also so they could be imported into other applications.

It would also be useful to be able to export learned word reference files.

Is there a way to do this in Spell Cather 8 for Mac? How about Spell Catcher for OS X?

Thanks for your help, Spell Catcher is a great product!

Learned Words are easy - select all when editing, copy and paste into a text document (or drag and drop - same thing).

Shorthand Glossaries are trickier. We have a utility (an AppleScript I think) to do *something* with SC8 ones - can't recall just what. I think it sends them to TexEdit Plus for printing purposes.

How would you want a glossary file exported? I would think that any app that imports shorthand-style files would do it differently...

I too am looking to export the shorthand glossary to a text file so the others who use my machine can have a printed sheet which shows them the shortcut and the start of the expansion. That way it may remind them that the shortcuts are available and encourage their use. ;)

We do have an AppleScript that can export to Tex-Edit Plus.

It's attached.

You need Tex-Edit Plus to use this Droplet.

Drop the Spell Catcher 8 shorthand glossary file on it (make sure Tex-Edit Plus is installed, and even open just for kicks), then you can print it from Tex-Edit Plus.

I also have been wanting to print out a list of my shorthand expansions, mainly as a reminder to myself. I have an old list from SC 8 days, but it's pretty out-of-date.

I found that I was able to select all, copy, and paste into a text file (the method Evan mentioned for Learned Words).

The only minor catch is there's no indication which items have the "Don't type separator" or other options selected. (With SC 8, as I recall, you could open and print out the shorthand glossary itself with BBEdit, and the options would be indicated by funky special characters.) That relates to the question of how one would want a glossary file exported: I'd suggest tab-delimited with one entry per line, giving the shortand, the expansion, and a y or an n for each of the three options ("Match abbreviation's case," etc.).
jp Japan y n n
jpn Japanese n n n
Or for a more compact output, go back to those funky special characters from SC 8, each of which (if I remember correctly) stood for a particular combination of options, and put them at the beginning of the line instead of the end.

But I'm happy to have my updated list, even without the options listed. Thanks for the hint about copying and pasting. Hope this works for others too.
