Because I do a lot of web development, and am not a great speller, I try to use SpellCatcher with my DreamWeaver MX program. Many of the features (interactive spelling) work well, but I just discovered that version 2.5 doesn't replace works correctly in the code view of Dream Weaver.

Of more concern, if you spell check an entire document in Dreamweaver, SpellCatcher will find and correct the misspelled words, but it will also strip out all of the formatting that has been applied to the page. This is true even when the HTML library is installed.

Is this a known bug, or is it a feature?

Hi,

You've asked two questions, so I'll deal with them in order...

I don't have Dreamweaver, so I can't see what happens in code-view. I can tell you that if an application moves or adjusts its current text selection as a result of showing and then hiding Spell Catcher's "Suggest Spelling" dialog, then any word replacement isn't going to happen properly. Perhaps you could be more specific about what happens with text replacement in this view. Also, are you using the pop-up menu to make a replacement or the Suggest Spelling dialog?

Concerning Check Selection: Currently Spell Catcher performs check selection using either "Plain Text" or "Rich Text Format" (RTF). I've begun working on an HTML module for Check Selection, but it isn't ready yet.

If the Plain Text module is being used, then all formatting is stripped - not at all useful for an application like Dreamweaver. RTF preserves formatting, but I suspect that Dreamweaver doesn't deal with RTF. Next time you try Check Selection, look at the top of the dialog... it tells you which module is being used. I suspect it'll report that "Plain Text" is being used.

If this is the case, Check Selection isn't an option for you right now with Dreamweaver. Please contact me directly through e-mail and I'll be able to give you an HTML module so you can try that out...

Thanks,
