Hi,

All your post consisted of was a title "New/Improved Feature, Add an option for interactive checking". No actual message text.

Spell Catcher (all versions, since the beginning of the program's existence more than 17 years ago when it was named "Thunder!") have done interactive checking.

So I'm not sure what you're after. Can you elaborate?

Hi

Yes I checked and for some reason my message wasn't there.

What I was asking for in the interactive checking options, in addition to automatic pop-up of the suggestion window, and keep window open until all errors are corrected, would be an option to close the window after responding to the most recent spelling error only, regardless of whether there are other outstanding "errors", because I frequently ignore error warnings when I know that they are based on proper names (I keep checking of capitalized words off to catch my typical hamfisted typing errors) or acronyms that are legit. If I use these frequently I do add them to the glossary or learned words, but in many cases I am happy just to visually check and choose to ignore the warning.

This would be similar to the way that older versions worked, and would be my preferred mode. Also I noticed that the "Ignore" button while highlighted did not respond to the enter key, forcing me to reach up with the mouse and click on the button, followed by two clicks on the esc key to make the window go away. Before if I hit enter to select Ignore or say hit 1 to pick the first suggestion, the window would close immediately afterward. This is what i am looking for.

Hopefully this reply makes it onto the forum.

And as I noted in my previous, "vanished" message I have been using the program since it was called Thunder, and the fastest Mac ran at 16 MHz!

Also I just noticed that despite setting British English as my preferred dictionary etc. that the program sometimes goes back to US English, on subsequent restarts.

Sorry not to respond earlier - kind of busy with the rest of the web site...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you can get the exact behavior you want (very closely emulating what SC8 did with some very minor differences) with some fiddling of the Interactive/Spelling/Suggest Spelling window preferences. Specifically, "Keystrokes go to the Suggest Spelling window" might be what you want to turn on.

Also, there ARE keyboard equivalents for the Ignore, Ignore All and Forget All buttons EVEN WHEN the Suggest Spelling window doesn't have the keyboard focus (i.e. you're still typing into the document, and the Suggest Spelling window is open). These are unchanged from Spell Catcher 8, but there are some bugs (in Cocoa, I think) that make it difficult to reliably show that one of these buttons will be activated when the specific modifier keys are down (sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't):

Command-Return should be the equivalent of Ignore, unless a suggestion is selected in the list - then it does a Replace.
Command-Option-Return should do an Ignore All.
Command-Shift (or is it Control??)-Return should do a Forget All (but it's probably easier just to type an arrow key or two for the same result).

As always, command-number does the replacement. Command-W will always close the Suggest Spelling window if it's open (i.e. SCX steals it from the app).

As for the reverting to US English, I do know about this one, you should be able to get the default spelling language to stick to British English if you move it to the top of your preferred language list in System Preferences/International/Language tab.

Hope that helps,
