I use a large number of shorthands -- so many that I can't keep track of them all, and often forget useful ones for weeks or months at a time, rediscovering them by accident.

SC X's "Completion" feature has made it much easier for me to:

1) select between lots of similar shorthands
2) learn what shorthands I actually have!

For instance, suppose you have five different letter closings represented by the shorthands sig1, sig2, sig3, etc. You might easily remember which one stands for "Kind Regards," but routinely forget some of the less frequently used ones. Wouldn't it be lovely to type "sig" and then see a list of all the possible expansions of shorthands that start with "sig"?

You can configure SC X to automatically present you with that list, or present it to you when you ask for it with a hotkey or the input menu. You simply choose the expansion you want and away you go. Or you can continue typing the shorthand to see which shorthand activates which expansion.

For instance, if you think sig4 will expand to "Hugs and kisses," then simply type "4" after typing "sig" and the completion list will narrow down to the single expansion that will be triggered by "sig4"... you can backspace over 4 and type 5 to see what "sig5" will get you, and so on. In this way, with a list of options right in front of you, you can quite easily either just select what you want, or test to determine which shorthand is the one you want so you can just type it full speed the next time it comes up!
