How come when you switch off and start up again, all the settings you previously set up in “Settings” have mysteriously disappeared and you have to go back and laboriously set them all again.
This has become quite a pain. I’ve set the function keys to switch between the U.K. English Dictionary and the US English dictionary ....but as soon as I restart later all the settings have gone.
None of the function (F) keys retain their settings past a reboot. Not even the dictionary settings from the task bar icon, remain past a reboot and have to re-set back to U.K. English every time. Although I do want to use the US English dictionary occasionally. Hence the function keys settings. But what’s the point if they don’t stay and you have to go back and reset them every time you start up?
This really has become a pain. I can see I paid for this without giving it a proper trial, and only hope I don’t live to regret it.
Anyone got a solution as to how the function keys can keep their settings past a reboot?
Thanks in advance for any ansnwers......although I don’t hold out much hope.....
Wont hold preferences after reboot?

Hi,
Thanks for your posting...
Don't worry about your recent purchase, you won't regret it. All purchases are refundable for 30 days, so there is no need to panic.
I'm sure there is a reason that your settings are not being saved, it's just going to take a little investigation.
It probably relates to the configuration of user accounts, and which OS you are using.
Can you tell me what OS are you using, and have you set up a userid on your machine for yourself (do you have to log in when you boot your computer)?
The reason I'm asking is because you settings are usually stored in your "My Documents" folder, in a folder called "Spell Catcher Plus".
NOTE: You don't have to have an account for yourself, Spell Catcher just expects that you do log in and have a "My Documents" folder.
If you are using build #1787 (the most recent), there is a new panel in the Settings dialog called Folder Options. Use this panel to specify where you want your settings stored. The default is your "My Documents" folder... you should try setting it to another location.
Get back to me and we should be able to resolve this easily.

Hello John, thanks for your prompt reply. I'm beginning to feel a lot more confident now.
OS is Win XP Pro Service Pack 2......
No I don't log in, and there is no user-id.
Yes there is a Spellcatcher Folder in My Documents.......that has been added since installation.
I took your advice and in Folder Options switched (browsed) to a new folder I had installed in C:\Program Files\Spell Catcher Plus\Settings
But still no joy. We're still not holding settings between reboots. I must be using build #1787 because I downloaded the latest version from your Web site on Sunday 19th June.
Looking in the new folder "Settings" in C:\.........it's empty. So presumably nothing's been put in there.....???
Chris.......

OK,
This was a problem that I introduced with build #1787. It was corrected yesterday with help from Chris (motorised) and an update to the new build was made available on our site.
Basically, I modified some of the settings code without fully testing the impact. Turned out that modification prevented the creation of settings files, but didn't affect those who already had a settings file.
To update your installation, perform a Version Check... by clicking on Spell Catcher's checkmark in the Taskbar with the right mouse button and selecting Version Check from the popup menu that appears.
This will tell you if your version is up-to-date, and if not, how to get it there.
