I use SpellCatcher for all my text processing. A substantial part of my text processing uses TeX. TeX/LaTex uses "\" to denote macro commands.
Although I have a dictionary full of TeX macros, I think I have to update the dictionary every time I define a new macro whose name is not an English word.
An easy alternative (for users) would be to let users specify escape characters so that SpellCatcher ignores all words starting with these escape characters. If it is difficult to deal with user-specified escape characters, I vote to hardwire "\" as an escape character.
If this sort of thing is already in SpellCatcher, I would love to hear about where I activate "\" as an escape character.
Thank you,
Ludger

Hi Ludger,
Sorry for the late reply... I've been cycling in Europe and just got back on Friday. This is only my second day in the office.
In any case, it sounds like you just want Spell Catcher to ignore some words that you type from time to time.
Here is the first suggestion that comes to mind... try holding down the shift key when you press the trailing space after the word you want ignored. If the shift key is down when you press the space, tab, or return key Spell Catcher will not check the previously typed word.
This may be all you need to do... let me know if this works for you by responding in this thread.
Thanks, and again sorry for the slow response...

John,
Thank you for the suggestion. Your shift+space suggestion sort of works.
Although all TeX macros start with a "\", they may be followed by nearly any character, number, or punctuation mark. In my experience, the shift+space approach would cover fewer than half of all TeX macros I encounter during interactive spell checking.
More importantly, I tend to check my entire documents at various stages even though I have SpellCatcher set for interactive checking. (I admit this is like wearing a belt and suspenders.) In this mode, the shift+space trick does not seem to work.
Thank you,
Ludger
