What's New in Spell Catcher Plus version 2.5.1
- A problem was reported concerning Spell Catcher's error sounds and some Windows 98 installations. Spell Catcher now uses DirectSound to play it's Error Sounds when a typo has been detected. On some Windows 98 installations, Spell Catcher's use of DirectSound prevented other applications from playing their sounds. This is a documented issue with older implementations of DirectSound, and occurs only in older OS environments (like Windows 98).
-
Several users reported that Spell Catcher was "hogging" the sound card. An additional checkbox control has been added to Spell Catcher to allow you to turn off it's use of DirectSound and revert back to older WAVE playing sound technologies. This setting defaults to "Use Microsoft's DirectSound".
If you notice Spell Catcher "hogging" your sound card go to the Settings dialog, Error Sounds panel and uncheck "Use Microsoft's DirectSound". - Spell Catcher now saves plain TEXT that it finds on the clipboard before performing a clipboard operation like "Check Selection...". You can restore that saved text to the clipboard by clicking on Spell Catcher's checkmark in the system tray with the right mouse button and selecting "Restore Clipboard Text" from the popup menu that appears.
- Shorthand expansions that included the "$" sign character failed to place the "$" sign in the expansion character stream, meaning that any "$" signs were omitted from the expansion. This has been fixed.
- The automatic version check reminder has been adjusted to remind you to check for new versions every 14 days instead of every 7 days.
