Spell Catcher works with a wide variety of languages. After opening Preferences via the Input menu, the Dock icon’s contextual menu, or by choosing Preferences in the Spell Catcher menu, click Language in the toolbar. Spell Catcher’s Language preferences appear.
Here are the recommended guidelines for setting the default spelling language:
NOTE: Changing the language order (as stated in the warning next to the caution icon) does not take effect in open applications immediately. This means that Spell Catcher will not know that you changed the language order if it is currently open. You must Quit Spell Catcher before performing the next step. Better still - log out and in again, especially if you have activated Spell Catcher’s input method since you last logged in or restarted, or if you have applications open that use the Mac OS X Spelling Panel.
Spell Catcher will display a flag representing the current language as part of its Dock icon (for example, the US flag appears in the Dock icon when this option is chosen and US English is the current language being used).
Spell Catcher will display the icon of the current keyboard layout in the upper-left corner of its Dock icon (for example, the Dvorak “DV” icon will appear in the Dock icon when this option is chosen and Dvorak is the current keyboard layout).
When Spell Catcher is the active input source, Spell Catcher’s Dock icon shows a checkmark instead of its application icon; yellow when interactive checking is on, red if it’s off.
Select this preference to associate the language used for interactive checking with a Spell Catcher input mode. For example, this would typically be used to automatically set the language to Russian when Spell Catcher’s Cyrillic input mode is selected. To make the association, you must choose a language from the Set Language menu in the Input menu (even if the language you want associated is already selected). You only have to do this once, until you want to change the associated language.
Select this preference to associate a keyboard layout with a Spell Catcher input mode. For example, this would typically be used to automatically set the keyboard to Russian when Spell Catcher’s Cyrillic input mode is selected, or U.S. Extended with Spell Catcher’s Unicode input mode. To make the association, you must choose a keyboard from the Set Keyboard menu in the Input menu (even if the keyboard you want associated is already selected). You only have to do this once, until you want to change the associated keyboard for the input mode.
